FAQ

Media Booking Questions

What is Media Booking?

UH System student and staff may directly request audiovisual materials (library or personal copies of videos, DVDs, CDs, audiocassettes, etc) to use in the classroom. Items must be picked up at UHM Sinclair Library Wong Audiovisual Center. This service is not available for community and associate card holders.

What's the difference between Bookings and Media Reserves?

Instructors put media on reserve for students to use in the Wong AV/C only; instructors and students do bookings to take out for classroom showing.

How long can I have the item?

The shortest possible time (usually 1-2 days). Exceptions can be made for requests of up to two weeks.

How soon can I turn in my requests for classroom showing, and how long will it take to process them?

Booking requests can be submitted as early as a semester in advance. Processing may take up to 5 working days for items that are currently in the collection (longer if we need to order the item).

Why are certain items on reserve checked out for so long, and can we request to get it back before then?

Either the instructor needed to show it for more than one class session, or the item could be off-island. We do not request that a patron return an item until it is overdue.

Why are items for classroom showing put on reserve, and why should I have to pay for overdue fines?

Items are put on reserve to ensure that the item will be here when the requester needs to use them. Ample time is given for bookings to be returned; if the requester needs an extension they can call the Wong AV/C and we will try to accommodate them.

When can I pick up my booking?

We try to have bookings charged out to the requester and on the pickup shelf at least two days before the requested use date. Patrons who are blocked from borrowing for any reason will be notified and asked to have the problem taken care of.

Why won't certain DVDs play in my classroom?

Most DVD players in classrooms will play all formats. However, some disc types, such as recordable DVDs (i.e. DVD-R) may be incompatible with a particular player.

Please test the disc on classroom equipment before screening.
