Wong AV Center Questions

Why can I not request media even though its status is listed as 'Not Checked Out'?

There are 2 reasons this can happen:

  1. The item you were requesting has already been requested by another patron, but since the request was made after the library closed the display in the online catalog was not updated to show that the item was on hold. The other patrons request had priority, so your request did not go through.

The public display does not change to "On Hold" until we have found the item and place it on the hold shelf. That way, when you have made a request you can tell by looking at your account that is it ready for pick up.

  2. The item has been scheduled for use in a class in the near future. Unfortunately this also does not show up as a hold. We hope in the future to have the display changed so that scheduled shows up as the status on the display of the full record.

Callslips Enhancement Requests

Callslips are used to request items from our closed stacks collections which include special collections and the audiovisual collection. As the library staff works with this software, we have found faults and requested enhancements that we would like the developer to make in the future.

  1. Patrons frequently want to request 10 or more items and find the current system of having to request each item separately very time consuming and inefficient. They ask for a shopping cart type of approach like internet shopping often provide.
  2. When a patron types in a comment on a call slip it allows type more that 256 characters, but only the first 30 characters are sent on to the print on the call slip. This would appear to be a bug. This problem causes communication problems and is very frustrating for both staff and the enduser.
  3. Items request are pulled and placed on a hold shelf for the patron to pick up. The call slip hold will expire at a set date, but that date does not print on the callslip. It would be great to have the ability to have the expiration date print on it (like regular hold slips) Currently we have to date stamp each item call/hold slip.
  4. When a patron places a callslip it appears in their account on WebVoyage (aka Hawai'i Voyager), this is a great feature, they can see it has been placed when it is waiting and how long we will hold it. Unfortunatly the callslip stays in the patron account until it is archived. This is true even it the patron has checked out and returned the items. The patronwill then complain that the item is still on their record.
