Preferences in Hawai'i Voyager

What are Preferences?

There are three major categories of preferences you can set in Hawaii Voyager. They are Search Preferences, Saved Records, and Saved Searches.

Search Preferences

Search Preferences will be in effect whenever you log in. If you have not configured your Search Preferences yet, you will be prompted to do so the first time you log in. You can change your Search Preferences anytime thereafter by going to the Search Preferences screen.

You can access the Search Preferences screen by clicking on the Preferences button from the Your Account screen.

If you are not logged in when you click on Your Account button, the system will take you to the Login screen. . Once logged in, this will activate the Your Account screen. At this point, you may click on the Preferences button to activate the Search Preferences screen.

The default values which your library has chosen will be selected on the Search Preferences screen. There are three sections of the Search Preferences screen which can be enabled in any combination. If one (or more) of these sections is not available for selection, it has not been enabled by your library. These 3 three sections are: Search Type, Records Per Page, and Databases.

To configure or change Search Preferences:

Set your preferences per section:

Search Type-

  1. Select one of the radio button options (Basic Search, Guided Search, Reserves) as your default search type. The button you select will determine the drop-down box options available to you. You can only select one type of search.
  2. Select the desired options from the drop-down box(es) next to the radio button you selected. Only the drop-down boxes next to the radio button you selected will be used for your preferences.

Records Per Page-

Select the desired number of records to display, per page, from the drop-down box.

Databases-

  1. Select all databases you wish to connect to when performing a search. You can select multiple databases by holding down the CTRL key while selecting the databases. You can also clear databases from your selection by holding down CTRL while selecting them. Remember that all of these databases (if you select more than one) will be connected to each time you perform a search, until or unless you go to the Databases page and change them, or change them in your Search Preferences. To avoid slowing your searches down, only select databases you want to connect to in the course of your normal searching. For special databases you only search once in a while, go to the Databases page and add those before searching.
  2. When finished, click the Save button. You will receive a Preferences Were Saved OK message indicating that your preferences were saved.
